YouTube video summarizer with AI – paste a link, read the key points
Chat shortcut: /youtube
Paste the link of a YouTube video into the YouTube video summarizer and read the key statements as text instead of watching the whole video. Choose how detailed the summary should be, then ask questions about it.

How the summary is created
The tool reads the video's subtitles, that is the spoken text the channel uploaded or YouTube generated automatically. From this text the AI model creates the summary. The picture itself is not analyzed: what is only shown and not said doesn't appear in the summary.
That's why talks, tutorials, interviews, video podcasts and news reports work well. Music videos, silent clips and videos without subtitles, on the other hand, give no useful result. The quality depends on the subtitle track: automatic subtitles have errors with names and technical terms more often than those created by the channel.
With the length selection you decide whether you only want the key points or a detailed outline. In the “Your question or task” field you can set the focus, for example “only the prices mentioned” or “as bullet points for my notes”. The summary appears in the chat, where you can ask follow-up questions, have it translated or have individual passages explained in more detail.
How it works
- 1
Copy link
Copy the address of the YouTube video from the address bar or via “Share”.
- 2
Choose length and focus
Paste the link, choose Short, Medium or Detailed and optionally add a question or task.
- 3
Start and read
Click “Start” and read the summary in the chat.
- 4
Ask follow-ups
Ask questions about the content in the same chat, have bullet points, a translation or an outline created.
Typical uses
Lectures and tutorials
Read the key points of an educational video and ask about what remains unclear.
Interviews and podcasts
Get an overview before deciding whether the whole episode is worth it.
Research
Summarize several videos on a topic one after another; each new link replaces the previous source, so compare the summaries in the chat.
Your own videos
Create show notes, a description or a blog draft from your video.
Good to know
- Requirement: a public YouTube video with subtitles, including automatically generated ones; private videos can't be fetched, and without subtitles no text comes back.
- Three lengths: Short for the key points, Medium for an overview with examples, Detailed for a structured summary.
- The optional “Your question or task” field steers the summary, for example toward a topic, a format or a language.
- Fetching the video text requires an account; the summary runs in the chat and is billed by usage like a chat reply.
- The summary is text without timestamps; copying and continuing in the chat are possible, there is no file export.
- The link goes to a transcript service to fetch the subtitles, the text to the selected chat model; link and transcript stay as an attachment in the chat history until you delete the chat.
Frequently asked questions
Which videos work?
Public YouTube videos with subtitles, including automatically generated ones. Private videos don't work; without subtitles or with a disruption when fetching, no text comes back.
What do I do if the video has no subtitles?
Then Audio transcription helps: upload the audio file there (up to 25 MB, convert video audio first with “Convert MP4 to MP3”), have the text created and summarize it in the chat.
How accurate is the summary?
It depends on the subtitles and can leave out or shorten points, even with correct subtitles. For details, numbers and quotes, check the passage in the video; for demonstrations or nuances the summary doesn't replace watching.
Can I decide what the summary focuses on?
Yes. Write your focus into the “Your question or task” field, for example “only the recommendations at the end” or “as a table with pros and cons”.
Which language does the summary come in?
Usually in the language you use the site in. If you want another, name it in the task field, for example “summary in English” for a German video.
Is there a limit on video length?
Not for the link, but for the text: very long transcripts are shortened before the request, the beginning stays, later sections are missing. A task like “only the part about …” doesn't bring those sections back; for recordings several hours long, Audio transcription of an excerpt helps.
Can I ask questions after the summary?
Yes. The summary lands in the chat; there you can ask follow-ups, have individual points explained or have the text turned into bullet points, an outline or another language.
