    An animation from single frames

An animated GIF is a sequence of single images shown one after another. Most messaging apps, forums, email clients and social networks play it without a player, which makes it suitable for short reactions, before-and-after comparisons and mini tutorials.

The GIF maker takes your images, resizes them to a common size and assembles them with the chosen duration. You set the width, the aspect ratio, whether the GIF loops forever, and whether smaller images get a border or are cropped.

The processing runs entirely in your browser. The images never leave your device, and there is no queue. The trade-off is that the browser sets limits: all images together may be at most 300 MB, and how long the calculation takes depends on your device and the number and size of the images.

    How it works

    1. 1

      Drop in images

Drag up to 60 JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF files into the field or choose them.

    2. 2

      Set order and duration

Sort the images by dragging or with the arrows and give each image a duration, or set one value for all.

    3. 3

      Choose size and looping

Pick the width, aspect ratio, border or crop, and whether the GIF plays forever, once or three times.

    4. 4

      Create and save the GIF

Click “Create GIF”, check the preview and download the file.

    Good to know

    • Input: JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF, up to 60 images per animation, at most 300 MB in total. From an animated GIF only a single frame is taken; it is not split into its frames.
    • Duration per image from 0.02 to 10 seconds, individually or the same for all.
    • Width 320, 480, 640 or 800 pixels; aspect ratio like the first image, 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, 9:16 or 4:5. The height is limited to 1,200 pixels, so at 800 pixels wide, a full 9:16 isn't possible.
    • Looping forever, once or three times; border color freely selectable. Transparent areas are filled with the border color; a GIF with transparency is not created here.
    • Everything in your browser: no upload, no sign-up, free and without a watermark.
    • Continue with: GIF Compressor, GIF to MP4, Crop GIF, Add Text to GIF or Reverse GIF.

    Frequently asked questions

How many images can I use?

Up to 60 images per GIF, at most 300 MB in total. Each image gets its own display duration between 0.02 and 10 seconds, or you set one value for all images with “For all”.

What duration per image makes sense?

For a slideshow of photos, 0.5 to 1 second works well. For smooth motion from many similar frames, use 0.05 to 0.1 seconds.

How do I change the order?

On a computer, drag the images to the desired position. On a phone, use the arrows below each image.

What happens if the images are different sizes?

All images are resized to the same format. “Show full image” leaves a border in the chosen color, “Fill” crops the edges. Transparent areas, for example in PNGs, are filled with the border color.

How big will the file be and which width should I choose?

For messengers and social media, 320 or 480 pixels are enough and keep the file small. Photos need more space than graphics; with “GIF Compressor” you shrink the result afterwards. The height is at most 1,200 pixels.

Does the GIF have a watermark?

No. ChatX adds no logo and no watermark, even without signing up. The rights to the images used remain with their creators.

Can I use an existing GIF as input?

Yes, but from an animated GIF only a single frame is taken; the animation is not split into its frames. Photos in a GIF also look a bit grainy, because a GIF has at most 256 colors per frame.
