Your own image, the classic look

A meme lives on an image everyone understands at once and a short text that gives it a new meaning. The familiar style is a bold white font with a black outline, usually in capital letters, so the text stays readable even on busy photos. That is exactly the look you get here as the default.

You load your own photo, a screenshot or an image you are allowed to use and type in the text. The boxes sit at the top and bottom but can be moved freely with a mouse or finger. Up to eight text boxes are possible, for example for captions in several parts of the image.

The image stays on your device: the generator does its work in the browser, nothing is uploaded. That is why it is free, needs no sign-up and adds no watermark to the result.

How it works

  1. 1

    Add an image

Drag a JPG, PNG or WebP into the box, paste it from the clipboard or choose a file.

  2. 2

    Type the text

Write the top and bottom text, add more boxes if needed and move them into place.

  3. 3

    Adjust the style

Choose the font, size, white or black, outline, and whether everything appears in capital letters.

  4. 4

    Save the meme

Save as JPG for chats and social networks, or as PNG if edges and text should stay especially sharp.

Teams and classrooms

An internal running joke for the team chat, or a memorable rule turned into a meme that sticks.

Good to know

  • Input as JPG, PNG or WebP; output as JPG or PNG. The longest edge is at most 4,096 pixels; larger images are scaled down when saving.
  • Three fonts: the bold meme font as the default, a plain one and a serif font. Text color white or black, outline black, white or none.
  • Up to eight text boxes, all freely movable, also on a phone with your finger.
  • The image never leaves your browser. There is no upload, no account and no watermark.
  • No template library: well-known meme images are usually copyrighted. Use your own photos, screenshots or an image from the AI image generator instead.
  • Short texts work best. A small JPG is enough for group chats; square or slightly portrait images suit feeds, portrait format suits stories.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a meme from my own image?

Drag the image into the box, type the top and bottom text, move the boxes if needed and click "Save meme". That is all it takes.

What font is used?

The default is Anton, a free font in the style of classic memes: white with a black outline. You can also choose a plain or a serif font.

Are there ready-made meme templates?

No. Well-known meme images are usually copyrighted. You use your own photos, screenshots or images you are allowed to use. You can also create your own images with the AI image generator.

Can I add more than two texts?

Yes, with "Add text box" you can add up to eight texts. All of them can be moved around the image with a mouse or finger.

Does the meme have a watermark?

No, the saved image contains only your image and your texts. That holds even without signing up or paying.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The meme is created in your browser; the image stays on your device.

JPG or PNG, and what size?

JPG is smaller and is enough for chats and social networks; PNG is lossless for sharp edges. The resolution matches your source image up to a longest edge of 4,096 pixels; larger images are scaled down. Square or slightly portrait images suit feeds, portrait format suits stories.
