JPG to PNG – free in your browser, no upload

Chat shortcut: /jpgtopng

Convert JPG to PNG right in your browser: drop the file and download the PNG, so future saves add no new compression loss. Only HEIC/HEIF, AVIF or TIFF files your browser can’t open are briefly sent to our server.

No AI No Sign-Up

Will be saved as PNG.

Images are processed in your browser, nothing is uploaded. Only HEIC/HEIF (and AVIF/TIFF if your browser can’t read them) are briefly sent to ChatX for conversion.

When PNG is the better choice

JPG is the format for photos: small and widely supported, but every time you save, some image information is lost. PNG saves losslessly and keeps edges and text sharp. Converting is worth it for screenshots, logos, graphics and anything you plan to edit again.

The conversion runs in your browser: drop the image, the tool writes it as a PNG of the same size, you download it. No account, no queue, no watermark.

How it works

  1. 1

    Drop the image

Drag the JPG into the box, paste it or select it.

  2. 2

    Convert

Click “Let’s go”; the PNG is created in your browser.

  3. 3

    Download

Save the PNG or continue with “Background remover”.

Good to know

  • Input: JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF (still image); HEIC/HEIF, AVIF or TIFF files your browser can’t open go briefly through our server (up to 50 MB). Output: PNG.
  • Saved losslessly, width and height stay the same; the conversion creates no transparency. One image per pass, up to 100 megapixels.
  • Processed in your browser; nothing is uploaded or stored. The only exception is the formats above that your browser can’t open.
  • Free, no AI, no sign-up, no watermark.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting to PNG improve the image?

No. What the JPG has already lost does not come back. As long as you save as PNG, no new compression losses are added; edits such as resizing still recalculate the pixels.

Why is the PNG file larger?

PNG saves every pixel losslessly. Photos therefore usually become much larger than the JPG; for sharing, JPG remains the better choice.

Does the PNG get a transparent background?

No, JPG has no transparency. If you need it, use “Background remover” afterwards; the result is a PNG with transparency.

Is my image uploaded?

No, JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF are converted in your browser. Only HEIC/HEIF, AVIF or TIFF files your browser can’t open are briefly sent to our server and deleted right away.

Are dimensions and metadata kept?

Width and height stay the same. Metadata such as camera model or location is not guaranteed to carry over.

Does JPEG or another format work too?

Yes, .jpg and .jpeg are the same format; PNG, WebP and GIF are also accepted (only the first frame of an animated GIF). Other target formats and batches are available under “Image converter”.
