Change Background – Put a Photo in a New Scene, Color or Studio
Chat shortcut: /changebg
Change background in one run: upload a photo, choose white, studio, beach or office, or describe the scene yourself. The subject is meant to stay and only the surroundings are created anew with light and shadows; compare the result with the original.

A new setting instead of cut and paste
Swapping a background used to mean: cut out the subject, place it on another image and hope that light and shadows match. Here a generative image model computes the new surroundings behind the subject and is meant to adjust light direction, color mood and shadows so that the person or product stands in the scene rather than being stuck in front of it.
You have two options: a preset, such as white or studio gray for professional headshots and product photos, office for LinkedIn profile pictures, beach or city at night for social posts, bokeh for a calm portrait. Or you describe the scene yourself with place, time of day and mood.
You need this when the photo is good but the background is not: the messy room behind your headshot, the kitchen table under the product, the gray wall behind the team portrait.
How it works
- 1
Upload a photo
Select a JPG, PNG or WebP up to 20 MB or drag it into the box; one image per run.
- 2
Choose a background
Pick one of the presets, from white and studio gray to beach, office or bokeh.
- 3
Or describe the scene
With "Own description", enter place, time of day, light and mood in one sentence; a color works too.
- 4
Check and save
Start the run, compare the result with the original, download the PNG or enlarge it with "Image upscaler".
Typical uses
Professional profile photos
Studio gray, white or office behind your existing portrait, for LinkedIn and the like, without a photo shoot.
Product photos for shops and marketplaces
White or gray studio background; compare logos with the original afterwards; for staged scenes use "AI product photography".
Social media posts
Beach, city at night or a described scene for posts and stories.
Team and event photos
Edit all portraits with the same preset; each run generates the background anew, small differences between images are possible.
Good to know
- Input: JPG, PNG or WebP up to 20 MB, 50 megapixels and 12,000 pixels per edge, one image per run.
- Eleven presets (white, photo studio gray, black, pastel gradient, beach, office, city at night, forest, mountains, living room, bokeh) or your own description in your language, up to 300 characters; with "Own description" it is required.
- The whole photo goes to a generative image model: subject, face, clothing, pose and crop are meant to stay, light and shadows to be adjusted; compare faces, logos and lettering with the original.
- Result as PNG at about 1 megapixel in the aspect ratio of the photo; no transparent background, for that there is "Background remover".
- Cost: fixed token amount per run, shown before you start; refund on failure. The photo goes to the AI provider, whose terms apply; ChatX deletes input and result after 24 hours (hourly cleanup job).
- Upload photos of other people only with their consent; official passport photos have their own requirements; use the "Passport photo maker" for those.
Frequently asked questions
How do I describe the new background?
Short and specific in your language: place, time of day, light, mood. "Café in Paris, morning light" or "terrace by the sea at sunset". A color such as "dark green" is enough too; you have 300 characters.
Does the person or product stay exactly the same?
The AI is instructed to keep subject, face, clothing, pose and edges and only adjust light and shadows; pixel-perfect accuracy is not guaranteed. Compare the result with the original, for products especially logos and lettering, before you publish it.
Which photos work well?
A clearly recognizable subject without overlap with other objects. Harder are glass, reflective surfaces, very fine hair and subjects that barely stand out from the old background.
Can I change only the color, for example to white?
Yes. Choose "White", "Black" or "Photo studio gray", or write the color in the description. For marketplace images, white or studio gray is usually the right choice.
How is this different from "Background remover"?
"Background remover" cuts out the subject and delivers a PNG with transparency. "Change Background" places your subject directly in a finished setting.
What size is the result?
About 1 megapixel in the aspect ratio of your photo, as PNG. For print or large outputs, use "Image upscaler" afterwards.
How much does it cost and what happens to my photo?
A fixed token amount per run, shown above the tool; if the run fails, you get a refund. The photo goes to the AI provider (whose terms apply); ChatX deletes photo and result after 24 hours (hourly cleanup job).
