Crop Image Online: Rotate, Flip, No Upload

Chat shortcut: /crop

Crop image in a few steps: select the area with your mouse or finger, set an aspect ratio if needed, rotate or flip and save. Your image stays on your device.

No AI No Sign-Up

Images are processed in your browser, nothing is uploaded. Only HEIC/HEIF (and AVIF/TIFF if your browser can’t read them) are briefly sent to ChatX for conversion.

A crop instead of a detour through an image editor

When cropping, you remove the edges of the image and keep the part that matters: the face for a profile picture, the product without a distracting background, the relevant part of a screenshot. The crop keeps its pixel dimensions up to 8,192 pixels per side; when saved as JPG or WebP it is re-encoded at the chosen quality, as PNG losslessly.

With the aspect ratios you hit the formats platforms expect: 1:1 for profile pictures and square posts, 4:5 for portrait posts, 9:16 for stories and short videos, 16:9 for cover images and videos, 3:2 and 4:3 for classic photos. The 3.5 × 4.5 cm preset sets the ratio 7:9, the size used for ID and application photos in Germany and much of Europe; you set the print size when printing. With a fixed preset the ratio is kept while you drag the frame.

Everything runs in your browser. There is no upload, no queue and no sign-up, and it works on a phone just as well as on a computer. You can pass the result straight to other tools, for example to compress it or remove the background.

How it works

  1. 1

    Add an image

Drag a JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF into the field, paste it from the clipboard or select it.

  2. 2

    Choose a ratio

Choose "Free" or a preset such as 1:1, 4:5, 9:16, 16:9 or 3.5 × 4.5 cm and drag the frame over the area you want.

  3. 3

    Rotate or flip

Rotate the image in 90-degree steps if needed, or flip it horizontally or vertically.

  4. 4

    Save

Choose original format, JPG, PNG or WebP, set the quality for JPG and WebP and download the crop.

Typical uses

Profile picture

Crop the face square (1:1) so it sits centered in round and square avatars.

Story and short-video cover

Turn a landscape photo into 9:16 instead of letting the app pick the crop.

European-format photo

Crop a portrait at 7:9 (3.5 × 4.5 cm, common for applications and IDs in Europe) and save it as JPG for an online form.

Screenshot

Keep only the relevant part of a screenshot before you share it.

Good to know

  • Input as JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF; output in the original format or as JPG, PNG or WebP. For JPG and WebP you set the quality, PNG stays lossless. A GIF in the original format becomes a PNG still; to crop animated GIFs, use Crop GIF.
  • The crop keeps its pixel dimensions up to a maximum of 8,192 pixels per side; larger crops are reduced to this edge, a small crop from a large image keeps its dimensions.
  • Cropping, rotating and flipping are computed by your browser; the image is not transmitted to us. Convert formats your browser can't open first, with Convert HEIC to JPG or the Image converter.
  • Free, no sign-up, no watermark, one image per run.
  • No circular crop and no way to enter exact pixel dimensions. For a fixed pixel size, crop at the matching ratio and then use the Image resizer.
  • The 3.5 × 4.5 cm preset only sets the 7:9 aspect ratio, not a print resolution. For biometric passport photos with head-size and background requirements, including the US 2 × 2 inch format, use the Passport photo maker.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. Cropping, rotating and flipping are computed by your browser; nothing is sent to ChatX. If the browser cannot open a format, such as HEIC from an iPhone, convert it beforehand with Convert HEIC to JPG.

Which aspect ratios are available?

Free, 1:1 (profile picture), 16:9 and 9:16 (video, story), 4:3, 3:4, 3:2, 4:5 (portrait post) and 7:9 for 3.5 × 4.5 cm photos (the European ID and application size).

Does the image lose quality?

The crop keeps its pixels up to 8,192 pixels per side; above that it is reduced to this edge. PNG saves losslessly, JPG and WebP re-encode at the quality you set; the file size depends on the crop and the output format.

Can I crop the image into a circle?

No, the crop is always rectangular. For a round profile picture, crop square (1:1); most platforms apply the round mask themselves.

Can I crop to a specific pixel size?

Not directly. Choose the matching ratio, for example 4:5 for 1080 × 1350 pixels, then resize the crop to the exact size with the Image resizer.

Can I rotate the image?

Yes, in 90-degree steps left and right, plus horizontal and vertical flipping.

What happens next?

After cropping you can pass the result straight to other tools: compress, remove the background, upscale or edit in the chat.
