Photo to Sketch: Pencil, Charcoal, Ink or Watercolor
Chat shortcut: /sketch
Photo to sketch without drawing yourself: upload an image, choose one of five drawing styles, download the finished sketch as PNG. Subject, faces and composition are meant to stay as they are.

Cost: 8,900 tokens per run · Input and result are automatically deleted 24 hours after upload.
Filter or drawing: the difference
Simple sketch filters lay grayscale and edge lines over the photo; that is quick, but often looks like a photocopy. Here an AI image model redraws the subject: with hatching, line work and paper texture of the chosen style, like a sketch from a drawing pad. Faces, posture and composition are meant to stay as they are; deviations are possible.
You choose between five styles: pencil (graphite), charcoal, ink, watercolor sketch and colored pencil. The result comes as a PNG with about 1 megapixel; it remains a raster image that can be upscaled for printing. You see the price per drawing on the page before you start.
Typical occasions: a portrait as a gift, the pet as a charcoal drawing, your own house as an ink drawing for an invitation, a vacation scene as a watercolor sketch for the wall, or a template to keep drawing on yourself.

Good to know
- Input: JPG, PNG or WebP up to 20 MB, 50 megapixels and 12,000 pixels per edge, one photo per run.
- Five styles: pencil (graphite), charcoal, ink, watercolor sketch, colored pencil; no sliders, the style determines line and shading.
- Output: PNG with about 1 megapixel in the aspect ratio of the photo, a raster image; upscaling enlarges it but does not turn it into a vector graphic.
- Cost: a fixed token amount per image (shown above), deducted at the start, refunded if the run fails technically.
- The photo goes to the AI provider for conversion, whose terms apply; ChatX deletes input and result after 24 hours (hourly cleanup job).
- No watermark; similar AI results with similar photos are possible.
Frequently asked questions
Which photos work best?
Sharp, well-lit photos with a clear subject and a calm background: portraits, pets, buildings, landscapes. Very dark, blurry or heavily cluttered images can produce flat drawings.
Do people stay recognizable?
The AI is instructed to keep faces, posture and proportions. Deviations in detail are possible, as with a hand-drawn sketch; compare the result with the photo.
Which style suits which subject?
Pencil looks fine with hatching and suits portraits, charcoal brings deep blacks for strong contrasts, ink draws clear lines for buildings and cityscapes, the watercolor sketch stays light and colorful for landscapes, colored pencil looks soft and colorful for pictures of children and animals.
What size is the result, and can I print it?
About 1 megapixel in the aspect ratio of your photo, as PNG. That is enough for screens and small prints; for a larger wall picture, enlarge the drawing afterwards with the Image upscaler. It remains a raster image, not a vector graphic.
Can I use the drawing?
Yes, including as a gift or print. You must hold the rights to the original photo and to the people shown yourself; for commercial use, the AI provider's terms apply.
What does a drawing cost?
A fixed token amount per image, shown above the upload. It is deducted at the start; if the run fails technically, you get the tokens back. Each new attempt costs again.
What happens to my photo?
It is transmitted to our server and the AI provider for conversion; the provider's terms govern its storage. ChatX deletes input and result after 24 hours (hourly cleanup job).
