PNG to JPG – choose quality and fill color, no upload

Chat shortcut: /pngtojpg

Convert PNG to JPG when a file needs to get smaller or a form only accepts JPG. Drop the image, choose quality and fill color, save the JPG.

No AI No Sign-Up

Will be saved as JPG.

Images are processed in your browser, nothing is uploaded. Only HEIC/HEIF (and AVIF/TIFF if your browser can’t read them) are briefly sent to ChatX for conversion.

When you need a JPG instead of a PNG

PNG saves losslessly and with transparency, but photos and screenshots quickly grow to several megabytes. Job portals, government forms and marketplaces often explicitly require JPG or set a size limit, and for email attachments and websites the JPG is usually the smaller file for photos too.

The converter takes your PNG and creates a JPG from it at the quality you set on the slider. Because JPG has no transparency, you first decide which color transparent areas should get, for example white for a document or the background color of your website.

The conversion happens in your browser; only files it cannot read (HEIC, AVIF, TIFF) go briefly to our server. You see the result directly on the page and can process it further: compress, resize, crop or remove the background.

How it works

  1. 1

    Drop the image

Drag the PNG into the box, paste it from the clipboard or select it.

  2. 2

    Choose the quality

Set the slider, the default is 90; lower values usually give smaller files.

  3. 3

    Set the fill color

Choose the color for transparent areas, the default is white.

  4. 4

    Save the JPG

Click “Let’s go”, check the file size shown and download the result or continue with another image tool.

Typical uses

Forms and portals

Upload fields that only accept JPG: lower the quality until the file size shown is under the limit.

Logo on a colored background

Fill a transparent PNG logo with the color of your website and embed it as JPG.

Screenshots by email

Save large PNG screenshots as JPG and check the file size before sending.

Photos from image editors

Save photos exported as PNG as JPG for web and social media, usually much smaller for photos.

Good to know

  • Input: PNG, plus JPG, WebP and GIF (for animated GIFs only the still image); output: JPG.
  • Quality continuously adjustable, default 90; the pixel dimensions stay unchanged, images up to 100 megapixels.
  • Transparent areas are filled with a freely selectable color, default white.
  • Processed in your browser, nothing is uploaded; only formats the browser cannot read (HEIC, AVIF, TIFF) go briefly to our server.
  • Free, no AI, no sign-up and no watermark; the PNG original stays unchanged on your device.
  • To go the other way, use “Convert JPG to PNG”; for transparency in a small file, use “PNG to WebP Converter”.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to transparent areas?

JPG has no transparency. Transparent areas are filled with the color you choose in the tool, white by default. For a logo on a dark background, just pick the matching color.

What quality should I set?

For print 90 to 100, for web, email and forms 75 to 85 is usually enough. Below 70 visible artifacts appear on text and hard edges. JPG remains lossy even at 100; keep the PNG original for your archive.

When is JPG better than PNG?

For photos: JPG is usually much smaller. For graphics, logos, screenshots with text and anything with transparency, PNG remains the better choice.

Does the image size change?

No, the pixel dimensions stay the same. The file size depends on the subject and quality; for photos and screenshots the JPG is usually smaller, you see the value before the download.

Is my image uploaded?

PNG, JPG, WebP and GIF are converted in your browser and do not leave your device. Only HEIC, HEIF, AVIF or TIFF files that your browser cannot read are briefly converted by our server, without storing them.

Can I convert several images?

One image per pass. For the next one, click “Open tool again” and drop the next file.

Can I convert the JPG back to PNG?

Yes, with the tool “Convert JPG to PNG”. The transparency does not come back, though, and the JPG compression remains visible; so keep the PNG original.
