Image converter – convert images to JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or BMP

Chat shortcut: /imageconvert

Image converter without a program: choose the target format, drop in images, download. The conversion runs in your browser, only HEIC and unreadable AVIF/TIFF go briefly to ChatX; up to 50 files come as a ZIP.

No AI No Sign-Up

Images are processed in your browser, nothing is uploaded. Only HEIC/HEIF (and AVIF/TIFF if your browser can’t read them) are briefly sent to ChatX for conversion.

When you need a different image format

Every format has its purpose: JPG is opened by most devices and accepted by most forms, PNG keeps edges sharp and backgrounds transparent, WebP and AVIF load faster on websites. Problems arise when an upload only allows JPG, an old program can't open WebP, or the iPhone delivers photos as HEIC that some programs won't display.

The converter accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, BMP, TIFF and SVG and writes JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or BMP, plus AVIF if your browser can write it. You set the target format and quality once, for JPG and BMP also the fill color for transparent areas, and convert up to 50 images in one run. Multiple files come as a ZIP.

How it works

  1. 1

    Choose target format

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or BMP, AVIF only if your browser can save it; for JPG, WebP and AVIF also the quality (default 90).

  2. 2

    Drop in images

Drag up to 50 files into the field, paste or choose them; mixed formats are allowed.

  3. 3

    Convert and download

After “Let's go” you download a single image directly or several as a ZIP.

Good to know

  • Input: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC/HEIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, SVG. Output: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF, provided the browser can write it.
  • Up to 50 images per run (together up to 300 MB input, 600 MB result, up to 100 megapixels per image), multiple files as a ZIP; the server detour for HEIC, AVIF and TIFF takes up to 50 MB per file.
  • Quality adjustable for JPG, WebP and AVIF (default 90); PNG saves losslessly, BMP without transparency. Pixel dimensions stay the same; small SVGs are rasterized to at least 1024 pixels on an edge, scaled up at most 8x.
  • Transparency is preserved with PNG, WebP and AVIF; for JPG and BMP you choose the fill color. As GIF, a single frame is created; animations are not preserved.
  • Processing in your browser, nothing is stored; only HEIC/HEIF and unreadable AVIF/TIFF go briefly to our server and are discarded afterwards.
  • Free, without AI, without sign-up and without watermark. Metadata such as camera or location data is not guaranteed to be carried over.

Frequently asked questions

Which format is the right one?

JPG for photos and wherever small files without transparency are enough. PNG for screenshots, logos and transparent backgrounds. WebP and AVIF for websites, because at the same quality they are usually much smaller than JPG. GIF and BMP only for older programs.

Does the image lose quality when converting?

Width and height stay the same; only small SVGs are rasterized larger. PNG stores the pixels losslessly, BMP as well but without transparency. JPG, WebP and AVIF re-encode; at quality 90 the difference is usually not visible.

Is transparency preserved?

With PNG, WebP and AVIF, yes. GIF supports only all-or-nothing transparency and contains only a single frame after conversion. JPG and BMP have no transparency: the see-through areas are filled with the color you choose under “Fill transparency with”, the default is white.

Can I convert iPhone photos (HEIC)?

Yes, HEIC and HEIF are accepted. If your browser can't read the format, our server converts the file briefly and discards it afterwards. JPG or PNG are suitable targets.

Why is AVIF grayed out?

Most browsers can currently read AVIF but not save it. If the option can't be selected, use WebP; that is usually also much smaller than JPG. Converting AVIF files to another format works regardless.

Are my images uploaded?

No, JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and SVG are converted in your browser. Only HEIC, HEIF, AVIF or TIFF that your browser can't read go briefly to our server and are discarded immediately afterwards.

Does the image size change?

No, the pixel dimensions stay the same; only small SVGs are rasterized to at least 1024 pixels on an edge. For shrinking there's “Image resizer”, for saving kilobytes “Image compressor”.
