PNG to WebP: Smaller for the Web, Right in Your Browser
Chat shortcut: /jpgtowebp
PNG to WebP in one step: choose the image, set the quality, save it as WebP. JPG and GIF are accepted too; the conversion runs in your browser, and only formats it cannot read go briefly to ChatX.
No AI No Sign-Up
Will be saved as WEBP.
Images are processed in your browser, nothing is uploaded. Only HEIC/HEIF (and AVIF/TIFF if your browser can’t read them) are briefly sent to ChatX for conversion.
Faster pages with the same image
On many websites, images make up the largest share of loading time. WebP usually stores a photo smaller than JPG at a similar visible quality and a graphic often smaller than PNG, supports transparency and is displayed by current browsers. If you deliver product photos, blog images or logos as WebP, you can save loading time, which search engines also take into account.
You drop a PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF, set the quality between 30 and 100 and save the result as WebP; your browser must be able to write WebP for this, otherwise the tool stops with a notice. The pixel dimensions stay the same, only the encoding changes; for image size and cropping there are separate tools.
How it works

Good to know
- Input: PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF up to 100 megapixels; output: WebP. Animated files produce a still image.
- Quality 30 to 100 in whole steps, default 90, always lossy; pixel dimensions stay unchanged, transparency from PNG is preserved.
- Processed in your browser; only HEIC, HEIF and, if needed, AVIF or TIFF go briefly (up to 50 MB) to ChatX and are discarded afterwards. The browser must be able to write WebP.
- One image per run; for many images at once, use Image converter with WebP as the target.
- Free, no AI, no sign-up, no watermark. Shortcut in the chat: /jpgtowebp.
Frequently asked questions
How much does WebP save?
That depends on the image, the quality and your browser's encoder: photos often get noticeably smaller than JPG, graphics and screenshots from PNG usually considerably; individual files can also get bigger. The displayed file size shows it before you save.
Which quality should I set?
The default is 90 and suits graphics, text and hard edges. Photos tolerate 75 to 85, thumbnails even less; the displayed file size helps you weigh it up. Even 100 is lossy, and every further conversion back and forth costs detail, so keep the original.
Is transparency from PNG preserved?
Yes. Like PNG, WebP has an alpha channel; transparent areas stay transparent. An animated GIF or WebP becomes a still image.
Which browsers and programs display WebP?
Current browsers display WebP. Older image editors, Office versions, print services and some upload forms expect JPG or PNG instead; for those, use Convert WebP to JPG.
Is my image uploaded?
PNG, JPG, WebP and GIF are converted in your browser and do not leave your device. Only HEIC, HEIF and AVIF or TIFF files your browser cannot read go briefly (up to 50 MB) to ChatX, are converted there and discarded afterwards.
