Image upscaler – enlarge images 2x or 4x with AI

Chat shortcut: /upscale

Image upscaler instead of stretched pixels: the AI enlarges your image 2x or 4x and fills in edges, textures and, optionally, facial detail, so the result still shows detail at the larger size.

No Sign-Up

Cost: 2,200 tokens per run · Input and result are automatically deleted 24 hours after upload.

Enlarging with detail instead of blur

If you enlarge a small image in an image editor, only the existing pixels are stretched; the result looks soft or blocky. An AI upscaler instead computes from learned image patterns how edges, skin, fabric or lettering might look at a higher resolution, and adds those details while enlarging.

You choose the factor and the image type. “Photo” is suited to shots from a camera or phone, “Drawing / Anime” to illustrations, comics and flat graphics with clear lines. For portraits, the “Also enhance faces” option helps by treating eyes, skin and contours separately.

You need the tool when an image is too small for print, a shop or a presentation, when an old scan or a compressed social media image should look clean again, or when you want to reuse an AI-generated subject at high resolution.

How it works

  1. 1

    Upload the image

Drag a JPG, PNG or WebP up to 20 MB into the field or select a file.

  2. 2

    Choose factor and image type

Use 2x for images that are slightly too small and 4x for very small sources; choose “Photo” or “Drawing / Anime”.

  3. 3

    Enable faces

For portraits and group photos, switch on “Also enhance faces”.

  4. 4

    Start and check

Start the run, look at the result at 100 percent and download the PNG.

Typical uses

Print and posters

Bring a phone photo or logo up to the pixel count the print needs at the desired size.

Product photos

Bring small manufacturer images up to a clean resolution for a shop, marketplace or catalog.

Old scans and family photos

Enlarge small, grainy sources and sharpen faces in the process.

AI images and screenshots

Upscale generated subjects or screenshots for presentations and the web.

Good to know

  • Input as JPG, PNG or WebP up to 20 MB, at most 12,000 pixels on a side and 50 megapixels; output as PNG at the new resolution.
  • The factor applies to width and height: 1,000 × 750 pixels become 2,000 × 1,500 pixels at 2x and 4,000 × 3,000 pixels at 4x.
  • At 4x, keep the long side under 2,000 pixels; otherwise the file gets very large and the run takes longer.
  • The AI adds plausible details; what was never captured, such as heavily shaken contours or tiny lettering, it cannot restore. Briefly check faces, text, logos and transparent areas after the run.
  • The price per run is shown before the start; there is a starting allowance even without signing up, and credit and subscriptions for more runs.
  • The image is handed to the AI provider for the computation; what the provider stores is governed by its terms. At ChatX an hourly clean-up run deletes original and result after 24 hours.
  • One image per run, no watermark. For iPhone photos in HEIC format, use “Convert HEIC to JPG” first.

Frequently asked questions

How large can the source image be?

Up to 20 MB as JPG, PNG or WebP, at most 12,000 pixels on a side and 50 megapixels. For 4x, keep the long side under 2,000 pixels; otherwise the result gets very large.

Are details invented?

The AI reconstructs plausible details from the existing image, but it cannot bring back anything that was never captured. For faces, the option “Also enhance faces” helps; check the result at 100 percent.

When do I choose “Drawing / Anime”?

For illustrations, comics, logos and flat graphics with clear lines. For camera and phone photos, “Photo” remains the better choice.

Does the tool help with blurry photos?

Slight blur and compression artifacts can usually be reduced; strong motion blur or very small lettering cannot be reconstructed.

What format do I get?

PNG at the new resolution. For images with a transparent background, check the result; for a smaller JPG or WebP, use “Image converter” or “Image compressor” afterwards.

Can I enlarge several images at once?

No, the tool processes one image per run. You start the next run right after the download.

What does a run cost?

You see the price per run before the start; there is a starting allowance even without signing up. ChatX deletes the original and the result after 24 hours.
