New container, re-encoded video and audio
MKV and MP4 are containers for video, audio and subtitles, not codecs. MKV holds many tracks and chapters and is therefore common for recordings, rips and media servers. MP4 is the container that phones, TVs, browsers, editing programs and social platforms usually expect.
The tool reads the first video and the first audio track from the MKV and writes them as H.264 video with AAC audio into an MP4 file. It always re-encodes; additional audio and subtitle tracks, chapters, as well as HDR and 10-bit color are not carried over.

Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't my MKV play on my phone or TV?
MKV is a container that iPhone, iPad, many TVs and editing programs won't open. MP4 with H.264 and AAC holds the same kind of video and audio and is played by most devices and programs.
Are subtitles and multiple audio tracks preserved?
No, the first video and the first audio track are carried over, regardless of language, without track selection. Subtitles from the MKV are neither carried over nor burned in; “Caption Generator” creates new ones from the audio if needed.
Do I lose quality?
The video is re-encoded in H.264 at a high quality level, so it is lossy. Differences show most with film grain, small text and with HDR or 10-bit sources, which are converted to 8-bit color.
How large can the file be?
Up to 96 MB, 15 minutes and 3,840 × 2,160 pixels. Split or shrink longer or larger recordings first in a video program.
What happens to my file?
Input and result are deleted 24 hours after upload (hourly cleanup). The conversion is free, without sign-up and without watermark.
