Remove Background Noise – Hiss and Hum out of Audio
Chat shortcut: /denoise
Remove background noise without editing software: upload a recording, choose a strength, download the cleaned file as MP3 or WAV. For interviews, voice notes, podcasts and old recordings.

Which noise the filter handles and which it does not
Almost every recording made outside a studio has a bed of noise: the microphone's own hiss, a laptop fan, air conditioning or hum from the power supply. Such interference is similar across the whole recording. The tool estimates this steady noise per frequency band and lowers it; the strength sets how deep the filter cuts, and quiet parts of the speech are altered in the process too.
"Gentle" only removes the fine bed of noise, "Medium" is the right start for voice recordings, "Strong" cuts deeper, can take quiet syllables with it and make the voice sound muffled. If a result sounds muffled, go back one level.
Changing sounds such as cars, music, conversations or reverb are at most partly reduced. For those, "Voice Isolator" separates the speech from the rest with AI (account and credit required, up to 30 minutes); afterwards you can filter the remaining noise here.
How it works
- 1
Upload a recording
Drag the file (MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC, up to 50 MB and 60 minutes) into the box or select it.
- 2
Choose a strength
"Medium" for voice recordings, "Gentle" for music or faint noise, "Strong" only for a loud noise floor.
- 3
Set the format
MP3 for sharing and podcasts, WAV for further editing.
- 4
Filter and listen
Click "Let's go", listen to the result and download it.
Typical uses
Interviews and podcasts
Take room noise and fan hum out of voice recordings before you edit.
Voice notes from your phone
Filter hiss out of dictations so the transcription comes out cleaner.
Old recordings
Reduce tape hiss from digitized cassettes.
Good to know
- Input: MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC up to 50 MB and 60 minutes. Output: MP3 at 192 kbit/s or WAV (16 bit).
- Three strengths: Gentle (−30 dB), Medium (−25 dB), Strong (−20 dB) as the filter's noise floor; plus a high-pass that removes content below 80 Hz, including very low parts of the voice.
- Pure signal filter without AI: good against steady noise, only of limited use against music, voices or reverb.
- Processing on our server; the input is deleted after 24 hours (hourly cleanup), the result stays in your media library.
- Free, no watermark. Also in the chat via the shortcut /denoise.
Frequently asked questions
Which sounds does the tool remove?
Steady interference: noise floor, hiss, fans, air conditioning and electrical hum. Changing sounds such as street noise, music, other voices or reverb are at most reduced; "Voice Isolator" is meant for those.
How does it work?
A frequency filter estimates the steady noise and lowers it per frequency band; the strength sets the noise floor; a high-pass takes out content below 80 Hz. No AI is involved, which is why the run is free; the voice is not regenerated, but it is filtered along with the noise.
Does the voice sound muffled afterwards?
With "Strong" that can happen, because the filter also catches quiet parts of the speech. Start with "Medium" and compare with the original; if some noise remains, "Voice Isolator" helps more than a higher level.
Can I remove background music?
Not with this filter; music sits in the same frequencies as speech. For that, "Voice Isolator" separates the speech from the rest with AI (account and credit required, up to 30 minutes).
Which formats can I upload?
MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG and FLAC up to 50 MB and 60 minutes. You get the result as MP3 at 192 kbit/s or as WAV at 16 bit.
Does it work with a video too?
Not directly. Extract the audio track with "Convert MP4 to MP3", clean it here and put it back under the video in your editing app.
What happens to my file?
The input is deleted 24 hours after upload (hourly cleanup). The result stays in your media library.
