Getting the voice back out of a finished mix

In a finished song, voice and instruments lie on top of each other in one track; the voice cannot simply be cut out. An AI model that has learned from many songs what vocals, drums, bass and accompaniment sound like assigns every part of the sound to one of four tracks. The tool outputs the vocal track exactly as the model delivers it: lead voice and backing vocals, instruments largely removed.

With studio recordings the result is usually usable. Faint remnants of instruments, a somewhat muffled sound where voice and accompaniment overlap heavily, or artifacts with a lot of reverb are still possible. Concert recordings with an audience and heavily compressed files are harder; the result is an MP3 in every case, even with a WAV or FLAC source.

You need the a cappella track for remixes and mashups, to practice phrasing and breathing, or as a reference alongside your own cover recording.

How it works

  1. 1

    Upload a song

Drag the audio file into the box or select it: MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG or FLAC up to 50 MB and 10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Check the cost and start

After selecting, you see a preview of the token total for your track; "Let's go" starts the separation with no further settings.

  3. 3

    Download the a cappella

Listen to the isolated voice and download it as MP3; to trim or convert it, use "MP3 Cutter" or "MP3 Converter".

Typical uses

Remixes and mashups

Lay the voice of a track over a new instrumental or another beat.

Vocal practice

Hear the phrasing, breathing and pitch of the original voice without accompaniment and sing along.

Cover versions

Put the original voice next to your own recording as a reference to compare timing and dynamics.

Good to know

  • Input: MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC up to 50 MB and 10 minutes; output: the vocal track as MP3, even with a lossless source.
  • Only the model's vocal track is output; backing vocals and background singing are part of it; for the song without the voice, use "Vocal Remover" (a separate job with its own price).
  • For speech with noise or reverb, "Voice Isolator" is the right tool; this one is designed for music.
  • Account required. The price per started second is shown above the form; after selecting, you see a preview of the total; billing is rounded up to whole seconds: a three-minute song is 180 second units.
  • The recording is sent to the AI provider for separation; the uploaded file is deleted on our side 24 hours after upload, the a cappella stays in your media library.
  • In the chat, open the tool with the shortcut /acapella.

Frequently asked questions

What is an a cappella track?

The vocals without instruments. Producers use it for remixes and mashups, singers for practicing phrasing, cover artists as a reference alongside their own recording.

How good is the separation?

With studio recordings usually usable. Where voice and instruments overlap heavily, with a lot of reverb or with concert recordings, remnants and artifacts can remain. If the job fails technically, the tokens are refunded; audible remnants are not a failure, so test with an excerpt first.

How do I get the best result?

Upload the track in good quality; a clearly mixed voice separates more easily than one that sits deep in the mix. A chorus is enough for testing; the result is an MP3 in every case.

Do backing vocals and background singing stay in the track?

Usually yes: whatever the model recognizes as vocals ends up in the a cappella; there is no separation into lead and backing voice. Individual parts can still be missed, or remnants may remain.

Which formats and lengths are supported?

MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC up to 50 MB and 10 minutes. The result is an MP3. Convert the audio of a video first with "Convert MP4 to MP3"; links to video platforms are not accepted.

How much does it cost?

A fixed token amount per started second of the song, shown above the form; after selecting the file you see a preview of the total; billing is rounded up to whole seconds. You need an account. For a first test you can cut out a chorus with "MP3 Cutter".

Am I allowed to do this?

That depends on the rights to the material. Even with your own recordings, check that you hold the rights to all works and voices contained; for other people's tracks you need the rights to the original, especially when publishing. The uploaded file is deleted after 24 hours; the a cappella stays in your media library.
