Sound effects with AI – create sounds from a description as MP3

Chat shortcut: /soundeffects

Create sound effects without a microphone or library search: you describe the sound in your own words, set the duration and get an MP3 for video, game, podcast or presentation.

No Sign-Up

Cost: 500 tokens per second or part thereof · The result stays in “My media”.

From a sentence to a finished sound

A sound effect generator turns a text description into sound. Instead of searching libraries for the right creaking door, you write what you want to hear, and the model produces a sound that comes as close as possible to the description. The more concrete the source, material, surroundings and intensity, the closer the result usually is to what you had in mind.

You set the duration between 0.5 and 22 seconds. For a click, a shot or breaking glass, one to two seconds are enough; for rain, forest or a café you take more and switch on the seamless loop if needed. You download the MP3 directly or trim it with “MP3 Cutter”.

It is needed wherever a sound is missing or stock sounds do not fit: YouTube and social clips, game prototypes, audio dramas, podcast transitions, presentations or your own notification tones.

How it works

  1. 1

    Describe the sound

Source, material, surroundings and intensity in one sentence, for example “footsteps on gravel, slow, outdoors at night”.

  2. 2

    Choose the duration

Enter the length in seconds, from 0.5 to 22; short effects brief, ambience longer.

  3. 3

    Set the loop

Switch on “As a seamless loop” if the sound should repeat without a break.

  4. 4

    Listen and save

Start the run, listen to the result, download the MP3 or edit it further with the audio tools.

Typical uses

Video and social clips

Whoosh for transitions, click for overlays, rain or traffic as atmosphere under the voiceover.

Game prototype

Footsteps, doors, hits and menu sounds for the first playable version.

Audio drama and podcast

Creaking door, thunderstorm or applause as a scene sound or separator between chapters.

Presentation and app

Subtle notification and confirmation tones that do not sound like a standard library.

Good to know

  • Output as MP3; duration 0.5 to 22 seconds in half-second steps, default 5 seconds. Description up to 300 characters.
  • Switch “As a seamless loop” for ambience and continuous sounds; one result per run.
  • Plain language works for the description; the model also understands technical terms such as “whoosh”, “impact” or “drone”.
  • Cost: a fixed token amount per second or part thereof, so 0.5 seconds also counts as one; starting allowance even without signing up, no subscription needed.
  • Use of the sounds is governed by the terms of the audio provider; when publishing, labeling obligations for AI content may apply.
  • The description is sent to the audio provider (ElevenLabs), whose terms apply. At ChatX, description and MP3 stay as a job in your media library until you delete them there.

Frequently asked questions

How do I describe a sound?

Name the source, material, surroundings and intensity: “Heavy wooden door creaks slowly in an empty corridor” or “Heavy rain on a tin roof, distant thunder”. One sound per run works better than a whole scene; you describe sequences with “then”. You have 300 characters.

How long can an effect be?

Between 0.5 and 22 seconds, adjustable in half-second steps. Single sounds such as a click or a shot need 1 to 2 seconds, ambience such as rain or traffic 10 to 20 seconds.

When do I switch on the seamless loop?

For sounds that should run longer than the clip: rain, engine, fan, crowd. The model is then meant to join the start and end so they fit; check the transition when listening. For single sounds the switch stays off.

May I use the sounds?

Use is governed by the terms of the audio provider; check them before a professional publication. Generated sounds count as synthetic; when publishing, labeling obligations may apply (in the EU, for example, under the AI Act).

What does it cost?

A fixed token amount per second or part thereof, shown above the tool; 5 seconds cost five units, 0.5 seconds one. There is a starting allowance even without signing up.

What if the result isn't right?

Change one element of the description, such as material, distance or tempo, and start again. Each run costs tokens again, so a concrete description from the start is worth it.

Can I generate music?

For that there is the AI Music Generator with up to 3 minutes of length. This tool is meant for sounds, ambience and short effects.
