HEIC to JPG – Convert iPhone Photos Online

Chat shortcut: /heictojpg

The iPhone saves photos as HEIC, which many programs and upload forms do not accept. Here you convert HEIC to JPG: drop the photo, choose the quality, download.

No AI No Sign-Up

Will be saved as JPG.

Your browser can’t read HEIC: the file is sent to ChatX for conversion and discarded immediately afterward.

When you need iPhone photos as JPG

HEIC saves storage on the iPhone because it stores photos more efficiently than JPG. Outside the Apple world that becomes a problem: Windows often needs an extension, job portals, government forms and marketplaces usually demand JPG, and older image programs will not open the file at all.

The converter accepts HEIC, HEIF and AVIF and delivers a JPG that common programs and forms accept. You set the quality with the slider and decide whether the photo keeps its original size or is reduced to 4000, 2048, 1920 or 1280 pixels. That way it also fits forms with a pixel or megabyte limit.

For this tool the conversion runs on our server: the photo is transferred there, converted and not stored permanently. In the process it is rotated correctly, metadata such as location and camera data is removed, and for HEIC files with several images the first one is used. You see the result right on the page and can keep editing it: compress, crop, resize or remove the background.

Typical uses

Job applications and forms

Portals demand JPG with a size limit: quality 85 and 2048 px are a good starting point; you see the file size in the result and compare it with the requirement.

Sending photos to Windows users

As a JPG, the recipient can usually open the image without any extra software.

Classifieds and marketplaces

Upload product photos from the iPhone as JPG so the upload field accepts them.

Ordering prints

For photo services choose the original size and quality 95 or higher.

Good to know

  • Input: HEIC, HEIF and AVIF up to 50 MB and 12,000 pixels per edge; output: JPG.
  • Quality continuously adjustable, default 90; pixel dimensions are kept or limited to 4000, 2048, 1920 or 1280 px.
  • Nothing is ever enlarged; smaller photos remain unchanged.
  • The file is transferred to our server for conversion and not stored permanently; the image is rotated correctly, metadata such as location is removed, and if a file contains several images the first one is used.
  • Free, no AI, no sign-up and no watermark.
  • For PNG with transparency there is the tool "HEIC to PNG".

Frequently asked questions

Why can't my PC open the file?

HEIC has been the iPhone's default format since iOS 11. Windows and many programs need an extension for it, and upload forms often reject it outright. Common devices and programs read JPG.

Is the quality preserved?

JPG is a lossy format; at quality 90 the difference usually goes unnoticed. The pixel dimensions stay the same as long as you leave "Keep original size" on. Compare the result with the original if needed.

Which quality should I set?

For print and archiving 90 to 100, for email, web and forms usually 75 to 85. The lower the value, the smaller the file; you see the resulting size in the result.

Why is the JPG file larger than the HEIC?

HEIC compresses more efficiently than JPG, so the JPG file can turn out larger. If it gets too big, lower the quality or choose a smaller size such as 2048 px.

Is my photo stored?

The conversion runs on our server: the file is transferred for that, converted and not stored permanently; it is not passed on to third parties. Metadata such as location and camera data is removed in the process.

Can I convert several photos?

One photo per run. For the next one, click "Open tool again" and drop the next file.

How do I set my iPhone to JPG?

Settings › Camera › Formats › "Most Compatible". This only applies to new shots; you can still convert existing HEIC photos here.
