WebP to PNG – lossless, transparency preserved

Chat shortcut: /webptopng

Convert WebP to PNG when Office, a print service or an image program won't open the file: drop in the WebP, save the PNG. Transparent areas stay transparent, nothing leaves your browser.

When you need a PNG instead of WebP

WebP comes from the web: it keeps images small, which is why many sites deliver photos and graphics in this format. As soon as you want to take such an image into a presentation, a layout or a print job, support is often missing.

The converter uses your browser's WebP support and writes a PNG with the same width, height and transparency. There is no quality slider because PNG compresses losslessly; the file size is determined by the image content. You convert up to 50 files in one run.

How it works

  1. 1

    Drop in WebP

Drag one or up to 50 WebP files into the box, paste or choose them.

  2. 2

    Convert

After “Let's go”, a PNG with the same width, height and transparency is created for each file.

  3. 3

    Download

You download a single image directly, several come as a ZIP, each file also individually.

Good to know

  • Input: WebP, also with transparency. Output: PNG, lossless; width and height stay the same.
  • Limits: up to 50 files per run (multiple results as a ZIP), 100 megapixels per image, 300 MB input and 600 MB result per run.
  • Transparency is preserved; an animated WebP produces a single frame (the first one).
  • The PNG file is usually much larger than the WebP; for saving kilobytes there's “Image compressor”.
  • Processed in your browser, nothing is uploaded or stored.
  • Free, without AI, without sign-up, without watermark. Metadata such as EXIF or color profiles is not guaranteed to be carried over.

Frequently asked questions

Why convert WebP to PNG?

Browsers display WebP, but many image editors, Office programs, CMS and print services don't accept it. PNG is widely supported and works as a lossless working copy for further editing.

Do I lose quality?

PNG saves losslessly: your browser reads the WebP and rewrites the pixels without lossy compression. But the image doesn't get better: what a lossy WebP already left out doesn't come back.

Why is the PNG file larger?

WebP compresses much more strongly, lossy WebP especially. PNG saves losslessly, so the file often grows to several times the size.

Is transparency preserved?

Yes, both formats have an alpha channel. See-through and semi-transparent areas stay in the PNG as they are. If you need a white background, use “Convert WebP to JPG”.

What about animated WebP?

The first frame is taken; the tool writes single-frame PNG, no animated APNG. An existing WebP animation can't be preserved with it; the GIF maker builds a new GIF from individual image files but doesn't read animation frames.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Your browser reads WebP itself; the conversion runs entirely on your device, including on iPhone and Android.

Can I convert several files?

Yes, up to 50 at once. You get a ZIP file and can also save each file individually.
